Equine Training – Saddling and Bridling Tips

Many people desire to learn how to bridle and saddle the horse. If you are one of them, kindly read on as bridling and saddling are important aspects of equine training. The bridle is a tool made to direct the horse and includes the headstall that holds the bit that goes in the mouth of the horse and the reins that are attached to the bit.

How to Bridle Your Horse

Bridling the equine should be made a simple process. Undo the bridle before putting it on your equine. Don’t tie the horse when putting on the bridle and make sure the horse’s head goes into the bridle without too much effort. It is important that you see the horse is comfortable before you put on the bridle so as to prevent the horse from doing anything that can put you in danger.

When putting on the bridle, the reins should be placed on your arm or on the horse’s neck. Don’t step on them as this might cause some damage. The headstall should always be detangled and open. Bridling on the left side of the horse is advisable as there you find the claps.

On the other side of the horse’s neck, put your right hand. Use the left arm to open the bit then hold the top of the bridle with your right hand. Holding and presenting the bit correctly is essential as this will ensure the horse accepts it without presenting any problem.

How to Saddle your Horse

There is need to get your equine used to having the saddle on its back since initially, it was not used to it. Do this repetitively and your equine will get used to it. First, you start saddling your equine with blankets. Usually, it is easier for tall persons to throw the saddle but nothing says shorter guys can’t do it. They just need a little more effort.

It is important to note that saddling the horse requires more of technique than just ordinary strength. You may be very strong but if you don’t know the technique, you might never get it right. You need to throw the saddle high enough to go over the horse’s back and placed gently not hitting the horse hard on the back.

Bridling and saddling in equine training requires some practice for perfection. Do it repetitively and you will get things right there.
